If you watch the Hill video above, Ball explains why for people like her, Kamala is the worst choice of a bunch of bad options. I think had it been Rice or Bass, there would have been some grumbling, but not to anywhere near this degree. Actually, some Sanders delegates wrote to the Biden campaign in an open letter proposing their shortlist, and Bass was on it. So I think they could have been placated, or at least not antagonized.
But even there, I would have been fine with a pick that the Sanders crew would revolt against, as long as it provided some other advantages elsewhere - mostly in terms of regional advantage, like shoring up support in the midwest or creating further swing states for the RNC to defend. This doesn't do that. This does nothing. The best thing you can argue is that she'll perform well against Pence in a VP debate that no one will watch, and it won't matter because that being the only thing she has going for her will simply lower expectations for Pence to a point where the bar is low enough for him to easily clear.
