Don't forget the 3rd they gave up in the Neal deal!!!
That's two 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th, and a 5th for bupkis.
Green and Ennis are UFAs and Athanasiou is an RFA who would need to be qualified at $3 million (yes, that much) and ALSO has arbitration rights!!!
So basically, none of those guys are likely to be back, and they're still stuck with Neal for 3 more years at $5.75 million, PLUS tacking on the $750K retained for Milan Lucic over the same time frame, so essentially $6.5 million for James ####ing Neal. He's their 4th highest paid player. Think on that for a moment. If they buy him out, they're hit for almost $2 million for 6 more years. A-maz-ing.
So, in the end, they bleed out picks (5 in total, mostly of the higher end variety), they lose players, and they ruin their cap management.
Edit: had to throw in Kassian for another 4 years at $3.2 million. LMAO!!!
Oh Ken Holland, please stay there as long as you like. You've become Chia 2.0.
Life has been pretty brutal the last few months, but I am truly, truly thankful for all of this. The universe is correcting itself, starting with the Oilers. They will be, forever and always, No Good.
