To Edmonton: Ryan Suter, 7.90 mil
To Calgary: Radim Simek, 2021 1st (STL), 2022 3rd (COL)

Oilers have taken some time off from trades and are addressing their lack of veterans issue by acquiring a guy who will be named captain at the start of the season. We have lots of defensive depth but wanted a high end vet who can play on the 1st pairing. Was okay with giving up the 2021 1st because St Louis is a strong team and I'm getting lots of cap in this deal. Simek was the odd man out on defence and I had a surplus of 3rds in 2022 so could get rid of one. Possibly overpaid a bit but think it's worth it for the above reasons.
