The Rangers get the lower of the two first-round picks that Carolina currently owns. They got Toronto's first in the Marleau trade, but if it ends up being a top-10 pick, Toronto will keep it.

At this point, the only way Toronto's pick could be top-10 would be if they lose to Columbus and win the lottery for the first overall pick. In that case, Carolina's pick wouldn't be first overall and it would go to the Rangers.

If Carolina were to lose to the Rangers and win the lottery, they would get the first overall pick because Toronto's pick wouldn't be top-10 and it would be lower than Carolina's, so the Rangers would get Toronto's first rounder.
