Mazda CX-7/Acura RDX are pretty cool...pricey though
The Acura MDX is a nice ride, you can find them used easily and a bonus is that since they are manufactured in Canada, you can import one from the US and not have to pay the 6% duty.
My overall choice would actually be the Subaru Forester XT, almost as big as many of the smaller SUV's and is F.A.S.T. reliable, great resale value and fun to drive. Plus you can get it in 5-speed (manly factor), which is hard to get in a decent SUV (the only others I can think of are the BMW X3 and X5). To bad it is kinda homely looking...

I live in the US, so don't have to worry about importing anything.......I will check out the Acura MDX though I'm sure my husband is goin to say it's too pricey. We'll also check out the Forester that you mentioned......it's hard cuz we need to find something that BOTH of us like and will want to drive that has the right price...less than about $35,000 US. Thanks so much for your advice though
