Nothing but blowhards like Spector (I assume) and Seravelli (who is the PHWA president) just whining about not part of the club for their own ego 100%, while trying to hang their hat on the “freedom of the press” garbage argument.

Bottom line is, there is no freedom of the press in the bubble. NHL rules, NHL info. Even if a guy like Spector creeps around the halls and gets to rub shoulders with the players as he desperately wants to, uncovers some juicy info on players or on COVID or on something the league is neglecting from telling the public, any of those reporters will be committing career suicide if that info gets out of the bubble. So, even if they find something out, they can’t do anything with that info anyway, and they know that full well.

Instead, it’s a move for a selfishly based professional profile raiser and an ego boost to be the rare bubble reporter, and the free 2.5 months eating free food and staying in a free hotel room, for whoever 3 go in there “independently”.
