Risebrough did a lot of little things right in his first season as head coach, which was also the last time the Flames ever broke 100 without the benefit of loser points. Unfortunately, in the playoffs he ran up against the defending champions, the Proud Old Oilers, whom I generally referred to by their initials.

The trouble in '91-92 is that he spent most of his time being a rookie GM and wrecking the team with bad trades and inexplicable drafting, and in consequence, the team didn't really have a head coach until he fired himself.

Really, you can blame the owners for sewering that season, because they handed the two most important full-time jobs in the organization to a guy who had little experience at either of them. If they had just bitten the bullet and hired a full-time GM, or hell, even given the job to Al Coates at that time, I believe Risebrough would have worked out as a coach.

OK, signing off again.
