His handlers know that if they can convince him to start taking the virus seriously, and if the U.S. can somehow flatten the curve before November, his chances of getting reelected increase dramatically.
Do I think this will actually happen? Not a chance in hell. Trump will likely say or do something incredibly dumb or racist (or both), probably within the next 24 hours, which will reverse whatever tiny poll bump he may get from today's Oscar-worthy performance of "serious Trump reading from teleprompter." He just can't help but shoot himself in the foot every chance he gets.
Also, the American public would have to completely buy into the mask/social distancing thing, and I just don't see that happening any time soon. Republicans and the MAGA cult have turned Covid-19 into a partisan "us vs. them" issue, and there's no turning back now. Cases will likely continue to rise, and I have a feeling they'll be well into their 2nd lockdown by November.
