I have a SD PVR, so I assume it is close enough to the same that I can answer you.
- You gotta have the power on the box to be able to record something.
- The functionality of the arrow keys can't be changed as far as I know, but like you I had issues with them. You get used to it soon enough though. Personally I have grown to like the PVR controls there, so I don't have to use the other set, which constantly has me hitting [list] when I want to hit [play] which forces me to hit like 3 buttons before I can stop fastforwarding through commercials
