A little surprised to see King running away with this round. King had a lot of desirable qualities. Posied, professional, great with the media and of course the goodwill of having coached the national team for so long.

But if a coaches job is to get a team to be more than the sum of its parts, his record is not that impressive. Zero for three in the playoffs and had players like Macinnis, Suter, Vernon, Nieuwendyk, Roberts, Fleury, Roberts, Recihel, Titov.

As Bingo pointed out he maybe was unlucky in some of the game 7's but don't know how you factor that in. Hell if Smyl scores on Vernon in 1989, Crisp is going down as one of the very worst coaches in franchise history.

Think I'll go Macneil. I still think Brian Sutter was a good coach here but hard to substantiate that with any data.

To give King credit, he put together three strong regular seasons in a row.
