If it was a rational decision he would state I gain nothing from playing but have a very small chance of losing everything so there is no benefit to play. Instead he weighs his passion for the game against the fear of losing his life or infecting his family.
So clearly he believes the risk is too high even though the risk of him contracting Covid and transmitting it to his family is greater outside the bubble then inside where he is tested everyday.
It’s also clearly a selfish decision as he benefits from the general group of NHLers finishing the season ensuring revenue while taking zero risk.
The thing is there is nothing wrong with his decision. In fact the players in general are likely foolish for going back especially at the margins. Max Domi is an idiot for considering playing.
It shouldn’t be controversial to discuss the motivations. The players should be selfish and be looking out for themselves when making this decision. It’s shouldn’t be considered an insult.

I don't think you are doing a good enough job of seeing this from Hamonic's point of view. It may have had nothing to do with whether "he believes the risk is too high...". I think you completely miss the point that in his statement he states "Due to what my daughter has already has gone through" he will not be leaving his most important job being her dad. He would have to leave her for months to stay in the bubble.
I cannot fathom someone arguing it is selfish to stay home with their family during a pandemic vs going and playing a game. He is giving up everything he has worked for in his career right now to stay home and take care of a daughter who he thought he might lose. Honestly I am a bit flabbergasted you think that is selfish. Who is he lacking consideration for? Are you telling me he is supposed to put his teammates or the fans needs before his families?
