Yeah I think it's just how often people are exposed to, and it doesn't even have to be a couples thing. In the early 90s my mom and I walked into a McDonald's on the highway in Montana and there were a lot of looks. Also in the late 90s I went to a wedding in Creston, BC. I spent 2 days there and it was looks and comments everywhere. Going for lunch in a group or the wedding itself, I might have been the first Asian they have seen in a while, if not ever. Even now, it's certainly different outside the big cities when I'm traveling by car.

LOL I remember when I moved to Calgary from Saskatoon in 2000, I would get a bunch of second looks when I would stop in the small towns along the way. As an East Indian I felt like I had just parked a spaceship at the gas pump instead of a Corolla. It has definitely gotten better as the diversity has increased in the smaller towns but it was a shock to me at first. It felt like those old westerns where a dude walks in the saloon and everything just stops.
