I agree with all this. The only comment I have is the free agency deals to older players always seem to fail, not just for the Flames but every team. Smarter teams seem to bring in lower level "leaders" for the bottom 2 lines at lower end deals and reward their own younger players with bigger long term contracts.
I would like to see them give the young guys a chance and then if they don't work out fairly quickly, or at least show progress from year to year, then make the decision to move on and let another younger guy attempt to fill that roll (i.e., give Dube the chance to play higher up the lineup and if he does not succeed either move him down or out and replace with a guy like Gawdin). That way you have a younger player who could help on an entry level deal.
No more deals to Browers, James Neal, etc. They are the cap killers and really don't provide much. If you can get a player like Ryan for decent money that is fine.
