Could be a number of things. Without looking at your eyeball I ca t say definitively. There are a couple things I think of immediately though. 1) mild Rx that only bugs you when you are tired or 2) dry eyes that get better as the day goes on. Or 3) you sleep with your eyes open a bit and there is a band of dried out cornea in the morning that takes some time to re-moisturize (called Nocturnal lagophthalmus).
Best to get it checked, but you can try an OTC lubrication drop like Systane Complete first thing in the morning and see if it helps.
