Ryan would easily be an everyday player on every Stanley Cup team of the last decade.
Maybe that is asking too much, but that should be the goal. Gather so much talent that players who would be every day players elsewhere are support players. If Ryan could be our Mark Hunter or Brian MacLellan, then we likely have a helluva team. That isn't a bad thing, that would be a good thing.

Ryan makes this team better when he's in the lineup.
I didn't say that he was a bad player, just that it should be the goal to develop the depth on the team where is the 13th or 14th option. If you're adding bodies ahead of him that are better, that is a good thing is it not? Imagine the quality of the team if there were 13 or 14 players better than Ryan in the lineup. That is probably a Stanley Cup winner.

I don't know why people get so defensive about players or trying to improve upon positions. That's what the game is supposed to be about. Always trying to be better and developing more depth than the other team. Imagine if we had the ability to push Backlund out of the lineup? How good would our center group have to be to make that happen? The team should always try to improve the talent level and that is no insult to anyone.
