I believe Gio will be left unprotected. Getting claimed is another can of worms all together. Flames have a promising collection of young prime D men and I can see them protecting as many of them as they can. The risk exposing Gio to expansion claim would be minimal given the few arguments made here. Age, Cap, length of contract remaining and availability of other options left unprotected.
