At the time of the expansion draft, Bennett will be a pending RFA who will require a $2.55 million qualifying offer to remain restricted. Unless his performance greatly improves over the next year, I don't see him being qualified by the Flames or Seattle.
If his performance over the next year warrants him being qualified, I don't see him being left exposed.
Also, if the Flames go with the 7-3 protection route, I can't see Gio being protected. Maybe they send Seattle a late-round pick for a promise they won't take him, but I don't see Seattle taking a player who will celebrate his 38th birthday before they play their first regular season game.
