They only way they make a good trade partner is if they are looking to move Eichel because he's demanded his way out of there, or if the Flames come up short in the play in series and decide to tear up the core and take a serious step back and trade Monahan and possibly others.
They also have lots of RHD but little quality of LHD, where as the Flames have more quality LHD and are lacking for RHD.
If the Flames decided to do a major shake up, they could probably net a massive package of futures from Buffalo for Monahan and Hanifin.
Cozens, Jokiharju and 8th overall would be a strong return.
Buffalo then has:
Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart
Oloffson - Monahan - Johansson
as a top 6, and:
Dahlin - Risto
Hanifin - Montour
McCabe - Miller
as their D core.
Flames would then probably move Lindholm to full time C and hope Cozens comes ripping into the NHL the way Barzal and Point did over the next couple seasons.
More realistically though, the Flames should really be trying to get Montour from them to add to their current roster.

Cozens, 8 and Jokinarju is not a strong return for Monahan and Hanifin. I think that trade makes Calgary significantly worse in short term which I don’t think is the game plan.
If they are flipping Gaudreau for Point then signing Hall we have a different story.
In my opinion this team is in no position to trade Monahan unless he is part of a package for a clear immediate upgrade. The only reason Gaudreau can be moved is because there is a good chance to sign Hall and Tkachuk is on the team so we would have 3 top line LW.
