I believe with the original The Shining, Kubrick went against King's vision and gave subtle FUs to him throughout the film here and there (a google search would find those examples I'm sure). I'm sure King had more say with this film this time around. I dunno - I was annoyed by the hipster feel to the villains in this one. The lady wasn't particularly scary with the English accent, and neither was her side kick. I guess that was the annoyance while watching the flick, which was distracting. If you're going to have evil characters who do evil things, at least don't have them parading around like hipsters.
