We don't have a 24 team playoffs. The playoffs don't start until there are 16 teams that have been determined, just as always.
Meanwhile, the 1995 Devils won in a year where they were only 26 teams in the league. 62% of the league qualified for the playoffs.
Once the play-in round is over with there will still just be 16/31 teams that have qualified for the playoffs. 10% tougher odds and half those teams had to play an extra series of a playoff intensity just to get in. To me that doesn't make it easier, it makes it harder.
