I just don't understand why people have such a hard time grasping this...
Just going from my proposal a few posts up:
Tkachuk + Bennett
vs.
Hall + White + 3rd overall
I dunno, I love Tkachuk but I think I take option two if it were available, especially since you'd have Hall for 7 years, White for 5 years and the 3rd overall under team control for at least 7 years.
Option #1 will have Tkachuk either making $10 million + by himself in two years, or gone in three.
It's the same when people talk about trading Johnny. I'm sure most Flames fans would much rather keep Johnny than trade him, but if you can get Hall, plus with the uncertainty of Johnny re-signing in Calgary then from an asset management stand point trading him is the way better option.
