Say what you want about their music, The Chicks aren't afraid to step into the spotlight and make a statement on the politics of the day, even if it means they are going to lose fans. If anyone is interested about their history and the lengths they will go to in making a statement, watch
Shut Up and Sing, a documentary about the crap they went through when the criticized Bush. A very powerful documentary, ironically from the Weinstein Company.
Of course it lead to a smash hit with the song
Not Ready to Make Nice. Hearing this song still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The messaging is so powerful because of the personal nature of the writers.
Music is a medium that can bring us all together if we just shut up and listen.
