That's a given. Owners these days want to make sports more of an "experience" where you go less frequently, but spend more while you are there. It's less about attending a hockey game, and more about it being your big night out where you go all out.
I'm sure in the end it makes them more money, but I think this type of strategy tends to price out families and will have some longer-term negatively consequences... fewer kids will be attending the games, and thus fewer will get hooked by the sport at that crucial age. It's definitely not a recipe for building long-term hardcore fans.
