In the last two years he's earned 72% of his points with McDavid on the ice (53% of the time if I remember correctly). How can you be the most valuable player, when you need another player to boost your numbers?
His contract is now a steal, but that's complicated too, because his contract was a boosting contract for the league, sending salaries up to which now makes his contract look good. Circular loop.
In a deeper numbers era it's hard to look past how pedestrian his 5 on 5 numbers are. I'm sure Hart winners in the past have won while being sketchy defensively, but he's been owned in almost every 5 on 5 metric in the last two years.
Great complimentary player though.
The question is will his own and on ice shooting percentage hold, or were the two years an aberration.
