China is slowly being cornered. As countries as starting to line up to sanction Chinese goods, their economy will slide quickly. At the same time they've spent a ton of money to expand their military and its capability from a almost border to border defense force and a coastal naval force to something that has a real offensive bite.
I've said that it hasn't changed. The Chinese want full control of the SCS and threaten Taiwan and to an extent Japan. As well the Spratley's are too good for them to pass up for much longer.
They've spent a lot on a new generation on Attack subs and missile subs. They've commissioned one carrier with their next gen carrier coming on line in the next decade, and they've developed stealthy carrier based aircraft. They've also upgraded their nuclear arsenal and coastal defense batteries.
The India China clash is no real surprise, its been happening for years. Its what happens in the south that's going to be the concern.
