I remember last year I wound up staying at a pretty divey motel with the kids (they still loved it god bless em) but on the way home I saw a way , way nicer road side motel. Anyone have any suggestions for something that's a little further out of town, close to lakes, and has nice outdoor area for kids to run around in?

There is the Stanford west of Fernie that has a waterslide but that's it. You are on the river, and close enough to town though. If you want a lake, Rosen or Tie aren't too far. If your kids are older take them to Silver Springs for some cliff jumping.
