So what you're saying is that he didn't almost fire you for saying merry Christmas, he almost fired you because he specifically asked you to use more inclusive language in the communications materials, you dug your feet in, refused to do what the CEO wanted, and, by your own admission, "put up a fight".
I stand by my original statement.
Nobody cares if you wish them a merry Christmas. You can ask 100 Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, Rastafarians, atheists, and agnostics if they're offended if someone wishes them a merry Christmas, and not one of them will say yes. I guarantee it. Ironically, if you polled 100 conservative Christians if they're offended by the greeting "Happy holidays", you'll find that lots of them are. Boy does that innocuous phrase sure trigger those delicate snowflakes.
