I think you're imagining the guy with a knife isn't really very aggressive. Did you watch the video I posted? That guy with a machete really wanted to kill a cop with it. 10 feet became 6 inches in about 5 seconds and it took four or five other cops to shoot him dead. The guy in the other machete video was sort of confused and not really trying very hard. Huge difference.

I'm not saying there aren't situations where a guy with a knife shouldn't be shot. I'm just saying in N America our police tend to way to quick to use their guns.
The case in New Brunswick makes no sense, the boyfriend calls the cops as his girlfriend is scared of a trespasser, she has no criminal record at all, no history of mental illness, no history of violence at all, is a slim built 26 year old mother of a 5 year old, probably 150lbs soaking wet.
This wholly unremarkable woman apparently comes running out of her apartment in a violent rage with a knife for no reason?
I can understand she had a knife if she thought she had a prowler, but if the cop knocks on the door and identifies himself why would she 'fly at him with a knife' perhaps she opened the door holding the knife?
