I always figured Otto was pissed because he was jumped and never got a chance to get his receipt. The linesmen were on him pretty fast, which was out of the ordinary back then. They usually just let them go.
Also, to answer your other post about Roberts, I remember him filling in every once in a while center early in his career - especially when he wore 32.
