that's very true. when I left Winnipeg 7 years ago to return home to Calgary I complained to my neighbour that to purchase a very equivalent home in Calgary I was paying (at that time) almost exactly 2 times as much...and he replied that that was true, but in 35 years when both of us wanted to retire to Victoria (hypothetical) my house might be worth 4 times more than his...that does appear to be playing out, despite the mini-boom in Winnipeg real estate (although of course Calgary is riding an insane high right now)

anyways I do agree that Winnipeg is a v underrated city and could be a good option for the original poster. It's not that hard to avoid the crime there, IMO
