The problem is that the people like this in law enforcement need to band together and demand change from the all-too-many officers who do not feel this way. And there needs to be an independent oversight--DAs/prosecutors/etc all count on the police to do their jobs, so they are inherently biased. There needs to be another group to watchdog law enforcement, a group that will, without bias, demand justice when cops overstep their powers. There needs to be better screening of potential officers, they need to be better trained in areas of de-escalation. They need to have regular visits with mental health professionals, as much to weed out the bad ones, as to keep the good ones from getting overwhelmed.

There are good police. They need to demand that their brothers in arms meet their standard.
