I have sat in a meeting with a white social worker who repeatedly called for an FASD referal even though the child's mother was present (along with 5 or 10 other adults plus the child) and had told us and I quote 'I have done a lot of stupid ####ty things as a mother but I never drank when I was pregnant', the kids behaviour never indicated he was FASD but the social worker was convinced all native mothers drank and all native kids were FASD, by the end of the meeting it was all I could do to stop the kid punching the social worker out as his mum sobbed in the corner, to this day part of me wish's I'd let him.

That is systemic racism, and because of this attitude when Native Education and employment programs are set up it is almost always with the idea that none of the participants can do much because they are all FASD and so just provide them with a day program to keep them quite, never challenge them to complete grade 12 and go to college because that is beyond them.

I often disagree with you in threads, but posts like this really make me appreciate that you're a very decent person.
