I remember a story about Arnold Palmer, when he was much younger he was scribbling an autograph next to an older, more experienced golfer. It may have been Ben Hogan (may not of been, I can't remember). He came down on the young Arnie, saying people are asking you for your autograph because they are fans. Do them the respect of signing something they can read. Leading to this famous autograph.
I don't understand why someone would want to give an illegible autograph. It defeats the purpose.
