It's a tough one. But I still think the price the Flames paid for Ramage was just too hefty. You never know the domino effect of things like would the Gilmour deal happen if this doesn't, or what happens to the Flames if they don't have Ramage. But Brett Hull is a top 10 all time goal scorer, and to have a year and a half of a guy who for much of it was the teams 4th or 5th defenceman seems pretty steep. I'd rather have paid it and have a cup than not pay it and have nothing. But you will be hard pressed to find any other deal in sports where a team paid a steeper price to win than that one.

At least with Hanifan the team also got Lindholm, and I don't think Hamilton will go down as a top 20 all time defenceman, and it was a given that Adam Fox was not going to sign with the Flames.
