Owning and carrying a gun for the off chance that you can act out a hero fantasy that can easily go south in real life and get you in legal #### even if you don't get hurt feels like the thinking of someone living in a delusional bubble. If you're the average citizen you're not trained to to deal with such situations anyways.

As for self defense, fair enough, store it away somewhere secure for that off chance. But it definitely doesn't need to be an assault rifle, and ffs don't be going to the grocery store barrel down your asscrack. You can't shoot coronavirus.

Also if you must have protection why use bullets? Get a flamethrower if you must scare away a potential trespasser. No need to incinerate anybody alive, just let loose a nice jet of flame like the badass you are and they'll pick another house.
You're delusional if you think anything other than guns is effective for protection against a zombie apocalypse.

Honestly speaking, I've really been interested in getting a high FPS air soft (just below certain FPS to be in the lower tiers) to replace having a bat or home invasion purposes. But that's really just an excuse so that I can get one to play with and shoot. I am not paranoid thinking that home invasions are common and I must protect myself. More than likely if somehow someone broke into my home while I was sleeping, simply yelling, "I AM A GUN OWNER." would cause the thief to leave. No normal thief is going to hang around trying to call your bluff as to whether you own a gun or not.

I have a $15 Colt 25 air soft gun that I bought at Cabela's that is a ton of fun. It is rated at around 150 FPS. I'd just like something with a smidge more oomph maybe around 250-350 FPS which is still quite below the 500 FPS level that requires regulation. Possibly even something with a semi automatic mode. Even if the air soft gun falls into the wrong hands, someone might lose an eye at worst, but no one dies.

I have no interest in owning a real gun, but I am interested in air soft in the same way I was interested in Nerf guns as a kid. It's a toy.

A gun isn't a toy though, it's a tool. The moment someone forgets this and treats a gun like a toy is the moment you have an issue.
