I'll always have a slight soft spot for Baertschi as he arguably ignited the Flames rebuild. It was nice as a fan to have a high end prospect to look forward to instead of hoping that 35 year old Brendan Morrison was the going to push the Flames over the top. Spoiler. He didn't.
For better or worse, the Flames org needed someone to latch their hope onto. The team was on pace for a 3rd 90+ point playoff miss in a row. The Oilers just drafted Hall and RNH. Vancouver was close to their peak. Baertschi didn't work out, but for a short time, he was the future of the Flames. Especially after his late season 3 goal emergency callup.
