In the 21 years I lived there, I only ever had to deal with fishflies (technically
mayflies) at our cabin in St. Laurent. They aren't a thing in the city.
The provincial bird, however, was most definitely a common nuisance, but even that was on the decline. Save for a final spike the year before I moved away, 2003 onward saw a dramatic decrease in mosquito trends compared to the decade prior.
