I can live with PBR if I'm doing the novelty Canadian thing of buying it in an American grocery store for under a $1 a can, otherwise it's the beer my unemployed brother who is over 30 and lives with my parents throws back. If it's your "favorite" well that's personal opinion and I'm happy that you're a happy guy without wanting more, but you're kind of proving my point here. This is a 31 team league, with the best 31 teams in the world playing in it, we have to think like that as fans. Sit down and write down what you think it takes to win a cup:
- 1. Norris caliber d-man on your #1 pair
2. Goalie posting higher than a 0.915 sv%, and probably closer to 0.930% in the playoffs
3. 250 goals from your roster...different ways to get there, but:- - two guys have to score nearly 40 (preferably on two different lines)
- three more guys over 20
- 40+ from the back end
- three more guys over 10 each on the checking line
- The 4th line chips in 20
4. A big 1st line center that can control puck possession when the games get tight in the playoffs
5. Speed/Toughness/size/skill/self motivation across the line up
6. Be able to keep the puck out of your net and only allow 190-210 goals against
Now do the exact same exercise with a salary cap, and declining (aging) or maturing players and look at all the other rosters in the league and compare them to the list.
If we want to have a championship team we need to be a championship fan base.
Also congratulations on your podcast, that's a fantastic side project to take on. You're absolutely killing me with Eric Francis though. Ugh...onward and upward from there.
