There's a difference between compatibility and fidelity. Sure, Docs/Sheets are compatible with Office formats, but there is indisputably a lack of fidelity when using native Office formats with the Google equivalents and vice-versa.

Anyone who has migrated an enterprise between either of the two suites will know precisely what I'm talking about. You are taking the chance that what you authored isn't exactly what the receiving party is going to see in terms of formatting, spacing, layout, etc.
