Look at Gene Simmons of Kiss. He is an ugly man. Yet he has slept with thousands of hot girls. His wife is a former Playboy model. She said in their tv show if he was not a rock star she would not have given him the time of day. Lots of wealthy people have partners out of their league. They get the hot wife, and some kids, and she gets a lavish lifestyle, financial security for her kids and herself, and her husband is gone or working most of the time. There is nothing sexist about this, this is a reality of society. If you really think an ugly athlete with a hot wife/gf would have still ended up with her if he had a normal middle class job you are just not admitting reality.
Sure, there are those who marry in large part because of their status, finance, or appearance. But you're painting a very broad stroke that essentially hockey player wives are gold diggers, which is why someone like Brent Burns would find someone, which is complete BS. It's a very bitter viewpoint. There are plenty who marry largely because they actually are in love with the person themselves, not just because they are a hockey player.

In a general sense, professional athletes get the upper hand over the regular joe because they are a well known individual who are one of the best in their craft in the whole entire world. It's easier for them to draw interest of romantic partners since they draw from a larger pool. But in the end, emotional bond is carrying the weight for the vast majority of these relationships that do end up being long lasting.
