I fully agree with the end of the post, however I take issue with the start of the post. Kansas City took San Fran to the bottom of the 9th with the tying run on 3rd base in game seven in the World Series the previous year and had the best record in the American League in 2015. The sample size of two playoff seasons and 364 regular season games would imply that the statistics are not completely perfect at identifying everything that goes into being a winning baseball team rather than the other way around.
As for weakest world series winning team: I present to you the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals. Regular season record of 83-78, fluked out being in a horrible division and then got hot for a few weeks in October.
