Average salary in the NHL is 2.78M/year.

Millionaires are not having as hard a time with Covid as the rest of the population. Players also have no stress concerning return-to-work. This isn't about family being more important than hockey. This is about someone who's job is as an entertainer, being asked to do their job, that they are paid very well to do.

Consider that the stresses that normal people are under, and the potential for domestic/emotional abuse that has risen during the pandemic. Adding a regular sporting event in the middle of that stressful time, might actually be the kind of relief that could be considered an essential service.

This is the one time in history when an athlete can save lives simply by doing their job.
