Conversely, the S7, from 2016, had its support ended last fall.
If you're less concerned about device security, and obviously as stated inter-operability, Android is the way to go.

Don't you see that it's not a lack of support, but rather an unnecessary software change that broke the connection between two devices that formerly worked together? That's a big difference in understanding my complaint. I'm not upset the phone doesn't have software beyond iOS 12. That's fine. I'm upset the software changed on the watch causing it to no longer work with the phone with no way of reversing that. It's created an inconvenience and a disappointment.
And no, I'm not going to be checking in on a random wikipedia page before I buy stuff to see how it works. Like, nobody would think of doing that so it's a ridiculous suggestion.
