that 84 series. what could have been, eh? in the regular season the Flames go 0-7-1 against the Oil, outscored 53 to 27...yet they take them to 7 games in 84 (admittedly on the back of 3 one goal wins, 2 in OT)

that series was a real tough one for young Loob to follow as it coincided with (a late) spring break and we were in the States- was truly almost impossible to follow the series from there (we got there in advance of game 6), no 24 hour sports, no world wide web, and USA today wouldn't have the western hockey scores until 2 days later- so I had to wait to find out Lanny scored in game 6 and then had to wait a few days to find out what happened in game 7 (honestly I know you would think the sports news would cover this at least in passing, but it did not- the big (HUGE) deal at the time was Bobby Knight holding the selection camp for the men's olympic basketball team- I remember some older southern US gentleman cornering me in an elevator and asking me if I thought he had cut the wrong guys- I had no clue- but realized there was no point me asking him if he knew who won game 7 between Calgary and Edmonton
ps- bingo- great link- it might as well be labeled Bearcat's greatest celebrations
