The best advice I can give for any bbq, smoker...outside cooking device is to buy a cover and use it. This is your number one solution for longevity.
As has been mentioned Most bbq's are you get what you pay for. Buy the best you can afford. Buy once cry once.
I have a decent BBQ and also purchased the big green mountain grill last year. I have only used my propane BBQ a few times since and have used the gmg likely 100 times. I am totally sold on pellet grills. I would like a good charcoal unit as well but I typically don't have the time to use one.
The pellet grills (traeger, gmg) are easy to use and produce amazing results. It is easy to turn cheap cuts into a meal that your friends will rave about. I liken the pellet grill to a wood fired oven more so than a smoker. While it does impart some smoke for short cooks it generally just improves the flavour profile. For long low and slow cooks like brisket the smoke ring and taste result is always a crowd pleasure.
If you like chicken the pellet grill is much easier to get good results than a gas grill that typically results in burnt outside and raw inside without surgical attention while cooking.
I am sold on the pellet grill and would advise anyone with one to experiment with different pellets until you find the one that you like the best. Everyone has their own preference for what the think is best.
I would also suggest a wifi model. I can put a large piece of meat in the gmg and monitor the grill and 2 separate meat temps while driving the tractor. I can adjust the temperature or turn it right off from anywhere. This works really well for me for seeding and harvest seasons.
