1) Might depend on what you have existing, but if you have 1/2" outside already it should be no problem. My BBQ was on a 1/2" to 3/8" reducer, so I added a reducing 1/2" to 3/8" 3/8" tee for my fire table. Even if it's 3/8" but you don't use the BBQ and second appliance at the same time it probably wouldn't matter, but I'm not a gas fitter by any stretch.

2) Conversion kit will include the regulator, so in general they are usually specific to the appliance itself... If it's the same brand it might work, but I don't think its something you can generalize an answer to.
