Well, the players as per the CBA get 50% of revenues so those 80 million+ payrolls might be 30 or 20 million payrolls if you eliminated gate receipts. Not sure if that makes it affordable enough for the teams, but I wonder if that combined with maybe if all the NHL teams put local TV contract revenue in a pot and split it evenly 31 ways might be enough for everyone to come close to breaking even.
