The Perfection. It's a seriously messed up movie that's definitely not going to be for everyone, but those who like it will probably enjoy it a lot. If you kind of enjoy watching some pretty sick stuff happening on screen, you're probably not going to regret watching this one.
So,
would recommend with extreme caveats.
Strenghts:
- Really excellent performances by the main actors (Allison Williams and Logan Browning) and there really no weak performances in the movie.
- Looks very good visually.
- It feels fairly original. Mostly this is IMO due to it combining such unusual elements. Serious body horror scenes generally don't happen in this style.
- The script is clever in the good sense of the word. There's attention to detail you often don't see in movies. Outside of a couple of things in the very end, everything has an explanation that somewhat makes sense, at least within the movies own twisted logic.
- It's memorable and unique.
Had a pretty good trailer that didn't tell too much. There's
body horror in it. Don't watch if you're not into that.
Weaknesses:
- The movie blends together (a certain style of) realism and some really messed up horror stuff, and the effect is so jarring it's likely going to take you right out of the movie every time you get into the latter stuff. It's what makes the movie memorable, but it's pretty WTF when you're watching it.
- I would imagine most people are just not going to buy into what happens in the latter half of the movie. It's still entertaining enough to watch, but it stretches believability quite far and just doesn't work as well as the first half.
