Yeah as far as I know you have your one native fruit, and you can get a second fruit from visiting another island with a nook miles ticket.. but those are the only two you can get normally. To get all the other ones you have to visit another player's island.

I don't care about gathering all the kinds so I'm fine with Oranges and Apples.

The foreign fruit btw sells for 500 Bells so once you get it you can grow an orchard of them and/or replace most of the fruit trees on your island for a little more income.
