Back in highschool I was a passenger in a car where the following scenario takes place.
16 year old guy who has had his drivers license for maybe 2 months has his parents car out. So like the intelligent kids we are there's 5 of us in the car (thankfully wearing seatbelts) out for a drive. We were on a gravel road in what I think was like a 1989 Mazda 626 (this is in 1992 so the car was reasonably new) so it's a front wheel drive car. Driving about 70km/h and the driver decides to start a slalom course causing the car to fish tail. Naturally he over does it and car spins out of control and first rolls onto it's side drivers side up in the air. We were sort of perched on the ditch where we were sort of balanced right on the edge until you hit the down slope and the car was wobbling. Of course the driver is panicking and thinking that we can get out and push the car back on it's wheels. As the first guy jumps from the car the momentum rolled the car onto it's roof. None of us suffered any injuries, and I think he said the damage ended up costing him $2500, which is probably $5500 or $6000 today, although most of it occured when the car rolled even though it was like a slow motion roll over.
